Torinoyume 2011 S‐2010’s No.2

“The Story within, the Language without.”

In this work, the movement of the yellow, orange, and green squares represents the events within the painting—a narrative told through color. In contrast, the horizontally divided band across the top serves to draw attention to the canvas itself, much like focusing on language as a structure rather than the story it tells.

By placing a band of pure, high-saturation red, I sought to achieve a broader chromatic richness, standing in stark contrast to the slightly muted tones below. Yet, as orange exists between this red and the yellow beneath, the composition maintains a profound unity.

The title “Torinoyume” (A Bird’s Dream) remains ambiguous: is it a dream of birds seen by the artist, or a dream held within the small head of a bird? This piece captures that fleeting, vivid boundary between structure and imagination.
